“Red River owes its name to the colour of its water, whose pigmentation is due to the iron oxides (ochre) contained in the bedrock. Close to Montreal, Red River is probably the most used river for all types of nautical activities. The numerous sections offer an interesting potential for all categories of canoeists, from the family course to the expert one. It winds its way through the Rouge-Mattawin Wildlife Reserve, then through several municipalities before emptying into the Ottawa River.
